I've been telling you for some time that peace is closer than ever before in northern Uganda. And that is still true today. The ongoing peace talks remain our best hope to see this horrific war finally ended. However, due to looming uncertainty over the warring parties' commitment to peace and escalating threats of military action, there is increasing concern that recent progress will be ruined and our hopes for peace will not be realized.
With negotiations stalled and peace not yet a reality, there is no better time for us to demonstrate, powerfully and collectively, to our government officials that this conflict cannot continue.
The people of northern Uganda have waited too long and worked too hard for peace to come this close and see a peaceful future slip through their fingers yet again.
Instead of standing on the sidelines while this unfolds, we can roll up our sleeves and help prevent it. We can be a piece of the peace in northern Uganda.
For those of you who have cared about this issue for so long, who have written letters and screened films and made phone calls and slept in the streets, there is no better time and no better way for you to help realize your hope for peace in northern Uganda than the Lobby Days this coming February.
I can't emphasize enough the impact that 1,000 people showing up on the doorstep of Congress can have in terms of changing and improving the U.S.' response to this crisis. You can be the factor that forces our leaders to change their calculations. To realize that there cannot be a priority more important than helping to end the unnecessary and inhumane displacement of millions of people. To look at a room of demanding and hopeful constituents and know that inaction isn't an option.
You can be the tipping point.
So please come. Early-bird registration ends on February 1st and we would love for you to be a part of this historic event.
Sign up now to reserve your place.
There really is no better time to help make peace a reality.
Thank you,
Alison Jones
